What is ZipDrive?

Set up your personal cloud for secure file access with ZipDrive, without moving your data to any third party cloud or changing your IT infrastructure. Browse, play, edit and share your files from anywhere. The files located on the computers appear as is, with all its file-folder structure intact.

You can remotely stream all your files like documents, music, videos, photos, and zipped folders via the web or your mobile phones. You can also enable your entire computer, or just selective drives / folders for access via ZipDrive.

What are the prerequisites for using ZipDrive?

Following are the prerequisites to access the files on your computers via ZipDrive:

  • The ZipDrive application should be installed and enabled on your computers
  • The computers need to be online and in an active state
  • An active Internet connection

Which operating systems are supported by ZipDrive?

The following operating systems are supported:

  • For PC: Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7 SP1, Windows Server 2008 R2+
  • For Mac: Mac Sierra 10.13 or greater

Do I need to configure the ZipDrive desktop application?

The ZipDrive desktop application is non-intrusive and has a minimal graphic user interface. On installation, you need to enter a 'License Key' and click 'Connect' on the popup window that appears, to enable access to the computer. No other configuration is needed. Once done, you can browse the files on your computer remotely from the ZipDrive web or mobile interface.

What is 'License Key'?

When you create your ZipDrive account, a License Key is generated. After you install the ZipDrive application on your computer, just sign in to your account via the web, and click the 'License Key' tab. Copy the displayed key and paste it in the popup that appears, to authenticate your computer.

Once done, get direct access to the files on your computer from any web browser. Your data stays with you, providing complete privacy and control.

Can I choose which drives of my computer I can access via ZipDrive?

Yes, you have the option to share your entire computer or just selective drives / folders for access via ZipDrive. By default, some files are excluded like operating system related files, Program Files, temp files, etc.

Once you download the ZipDrive application, a tray icon is created on your computer. Right-click the tray icon and a menu appears. Select 'Access Settings'. You can choose from the following options:

  • Access:
    • Entire Computer - Gives access to your entire computer
    • Specific Drives - Choose the specific drives you wish to access via ZipDrive
    • Specific Location - Choose the specific folder or location you wish to access via ZipDrive

  • Exclusions: The selected folders will not be visible or accessible
    • Click to exclude from the list
    • Click to add to the list

Click 'OK' after the selection is made, which will restart the ZipDrive application.

What options are available in the ZipDrive tray?

On installation, ZipDrive creates a tray icon on your computer. Right-click the icon and a menu appears.

  • Open: Opens the ZipDrive desktop connection screen
  • Pause Access: Temporarily pauses the access
  • Access Settings: You can select the desktop access permissions
  • Send Error Report: Contact ZipDrive support for queries, suggestions or feedback
  • Check Updates: Check whether the ZipDrive application is up-to-date
  • Online Help: Read about the features and functionalities of ZipDrive
  • Exit: Exit from the application

How can I configure Proxy Settings to use the ZipDrive application?

To configure proxy settings, right-click the ZipDrive tray icon and a menu appears. Select 'Access Settings' and go to the 'Proxy' tab.

The following are the available options:

  • No Proxy: This is a default setting.
  • Auto Detect: Select to get the proxy settings automatically.
  • Manual: Select and configure the proxy server name, port and authentication details.

Click 'OK' after the selection is made, which will restart the ZipDrive application.

Can I unlink my computer?

Yes, you can unlink your computer and remove it from access at anytime.

To unlink,

  1. Right-click the ZipDrive tray icon and click 'Open'.
  2. Click the drop-down menu against your email address.
  3. Click 'Logout (Unlink)'.

Your computer will be unlinked and removed from your ZipDrive account. To link the computer again, enter the License Key and click 'Connect'.

Do I need to enable access to my computer before accessing via the web?

When you install the ZipDrive application on your computer, access is enabled by default. You can disable access to your computer by clicking the slider button again in the connection screen.

To pause the access temporarily, right-click the ZipDrive tray icon, and click 'Pause Access'. To resume, click 'Resume Access'.

How do I uninstall the ZipDrive application from my Mac machine?

To uninstall ZipDrive application from your Mac machine,

  1. Press '⌘ + space bar' to open a search bar on your screen.
  2. From the search bar open 'Spotlight'.
  3. Type 'Terminal' and search.
  4. Double click 'Terminal' in the left sidebar to open your Mac's Terminal.
  5. Run the following commands:

    sudo pkill -x ZipDrive
    sudo launchctl unload /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.zipdrive.agentservice.plist
    sudo launchctl unload /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.zipdrive.relayservice.plist
    sudo rm -rf /Applications/ZipDrive.app/
    sudo rm -rf /Library/ZipDrive/Logs/
    sudo rm -rf /Library/Application\ Support/ZipDrive/
